Yuumi Guide for Backseat Gamers

About Myself

Hello Summoners, this is snorlax irl and today I want to introduce you to the art of pressing E multiple times in a row to heal for a few thousands of HP.

I've been playing League since Season 4 on the EUW Server. I started picking up Yuumi two seasons ago, with my highest rank being Master Tier in Season 11. My second role is Top Lane where i play Aatrox and some other champions. Yuumi is arguably my best champion for the amount of games played.

Runes

  • Basic Rune Page

I use this rune page in all of my games with few alterations. I will give you a short explanation to every part of it.

Aery: The only viable keystone for Yuumi. It procs on everything you do. Q onto enemy, gain a shield by attaching to Champions with W and healing with E. Also procs on R.

Manaflow Band: The other two are useless for you. More Mana = bigger shield on Passive, more Mana for using Q.

Transcendence: Gain Cooldown and reduce Cooldown on Takedown. You can also take Absolute Focus here, it's a decent choice for late game.

Scorch: More Q Damage, strong early. You can also go Gathering Storm here if it looks like the game will go on for longer or you have scaling champions. GS is also better if you play with a hyper carry and don't need to do damage by yourself as much.

Presence of Mind: Mana Regeneration when you hit Q, you restore massive amounts of Mana during fights as long as you sit on someone and press E.

Cut Down: Since you barely build any health, this increases your Q damage against most enemies that have higher HP.

Summoner Spells

The best thing to do here is grab Heal, because you will build items that increase your healing. The amount of healing you get from the summoner spell "Heal" also gets increased with that which makes the value higher. You can just ask your ADC in chat.

Most ADCs are fine with going Exhaust as their second Summoner Spell. If the ADC insists on taking Heal themselves, just go with Exhaust and Ignite, it's not bad.

Skill Path

The normal thing to do is maxing E to increase your healing and attack speed. Doing damage is not as important as providing utility for your carries. However, when your ADC doesn't need to rely on Attack Speed because he doesn't do consistent damage (e.g. Ezreal) or you feel like you can easily hit Qs onto the enemy to do some damage combined with Scorch, you can also max Q. In most cases, maxing E is the go-to-choice.

When you have an ADC that wants to fight / trade at level 1 (Draven, Jhin, Kog), you should think about skilling E at level 1 instead of Q to provide Attack Speed and Healing.

Otherwise, skilling Q at level one for some poke is the best choice.

Item Builds

Starting Items: The only choice here is Spellthief's Edge. You don't need to buy potions since you are not the one doing the trades. The only trading you should be doing is pressing Q while attached and look for autoattacks when your passive is up, if possible. You can buy a Control Ward if you want to.

Early Game: You should always try to be able to buy Bandleglass Mirror on your first back. It gives you all the stats your champion wants and is necessary to complete your Mythic Item. Once you have your Mythic, Forbidden Idol builds into almost every Item that is interesting for you.

Mythic Items: Moonstone Renewer is a great item, but you shouldn't build it every single game. When you are about to complete your Mythic Item and you notice that the enemy champions (especially focus on your lane opponents) are already building healing reduction, or have champions that can apply it, you should think of going Shurelya's instead. When the enemy Support provides constant healing (Soraka, Nami, Taric), I recommend building Chemtank Purifier or at least Oblivion Orb as your first item before your Mythic to provide Antiheal.

Core Items: They are three Core Items which you build almost every game. However, which one you build second can change depending on what gives you the most value in the current game. When your main Carry on the team needs Attack Speed (DPS), go Ardent Censer second since it gives an Attack Speed Boost. When your main Carry is a Mage, build Staff of Flowing Water, since it provides AP and Ability Haste. However, when your opponents have hard CC such as Ashe R or Sona R, you can go Mikaels Blessing to cleanse the CC of your Carry. Build the other two afterwards.

Matchups and Synergies

Here are a few of the harder matchups for Yuumi. The main point is that you should avoid getting CCd when you are not attached since you are dead in half a second. Please note that you can still easily play Yuumi into every matchup.
