Twitch

The plague rat

Intro

Hello and welcome, i'm 4gunshoot, a plat ADC main[EUW]

i'm here to introduce you to the infestor of Zaun sewers, none other than,

Twitch
.

One of oldest character in League of Legends and considered to be an hypercarry, is a great and unique pick that surprises enemies in SoloQ thanks to camouflage. if you're the type of player that likes to be "sneaky, sneaky ~ Twitch" and assasinate others the plague rat can't be on your mains list, but without further ado, let's jump into action.

PROS

+ Camouflage* + Late game monster + Assasin type playstyle + Versatile build (AP/AD)

CONS

- Poor early game - Low mobility - Vulnerable to cc - No hard CC in kit other than a little slow - Hard to play from behind

*Camouflage

Camouflage is a form of stealth that renders a unit hidden from enemy  vision for a long period of time and it also grants ghosting.

  • Camouflaged units are revealed while being inside the line of sight (e.g. not in the fog of war, behind terrain, or blocked by  nearsight) of a nearby enemy  champion (with the range depending on the ability), when within the vision radius of an enemy
    Control Ward
(900 units), or from sources of True Sight (like
    Heightened Senses
    )

  • Camouflaged units will briefly shimmer whenever they take damage. A unit will shimmer for every instance of damage they take, and shimmering does not make a unit targetable nor remove the stealth effect, but grants positional information to the enemy.

  • When a camouflaged unit can be seen, they will be warned by an exclamation mark above them indicating they have been spotted.

Abilities

    Runes

In this section, i discuss Twitch most common setups,

    Press the Attack
    ,
    Lethal Tempo
    and
    Hail of Blades
, but you can find all the variations here .

    • PTA
    • LT

    Precision - primary(AD only)

    Press the Attack
    vs
    Lethal Tempo

    Press the Attack
---> GOOD ON ISOLATED PICKS / EARLY GAME

Basically PTA amplifies your damage against single enemy champion after hitting them with 3 consecutive autoattacks and also applies bonus adaptive damage, overall empowering your early game presence, considering that your trading pattern consist of stacking

    Deadly Venom
as much as possible in order to deal more damage with
    Contaminate
    , you're going to proc
    Press the Attack
    while stacking your passive.

    Lethal Tempo
---> EMPOWER YOUR MID/LATE GAME TEAMFIGHTS

LT recquires a lot of time to become efficient, early game is very hard to stack it, unless enemies are afk, by the time you've reached 4/ 5 stacks, they have already won the trade.

    -"why pick lethal tempo then?"

The answer is simple, when combining lethal tempo with

    Spray and Pray
you're able to stack it to his max value very easily, and not only that, the longer the game goes, the more you appreciate this rune, when reaching mid/late game if you mix
    Ambush
    bonus atk speed +
    Lethal Tempo
    ( atk.speed + range) +
    Spray and Pray
, your DPS becomes unmatchable .

    - My opinion -

Personally, i'm not a huge fan of

    Press the Attack
    , because i think
    Twitch
's main ability during mid-late game consist of shredding multiple targets at the same time and
    Lethal Tempo
gives me more in this sense, but regardless i suggest to try both and choose which ever fit your playstyle the most.

    Legend: Alacrity
    VS
    Legend: Bloodline

Here you can chose whatever you like the most, both offer valuable stats, i slightly prefer

    Legend: Alacrity
because i think atk speed is better and i already reach good amount of lifesteal with
    Taste of Blood
    +
    Treasure Hunter
    and
    Blade of The Ruined King
, but i tend to switch over to
    Legend: Bloodline
when facing hard matchups and i know with that extra lifesteal i'd be able to survive.

    Coup de Grace
    VS
    Cut Down

    Coup de Grace
    gives more versatility compared to
    Cut Down
, you're going to proc it every time you lower enemy hp below 40%, so i highly suggest to take it almost every time, but when facing particularly tanky comp,
    Cut Down
is for sure a viable option.

    Domination - secondary

    Taste of Blood
    +
    Treasure Hunter
    /
    Ultimate Hunter
    /
    Ingenious Hunter

This is your best set of secondary runes

    Taste of Blood
great for sustain in lane as this is by far Twitch's weakest point of any time in the game.

    Then you can either choose:

    1.
      Treasure Hunter
      - to add even more sustain
    2.
      Ultimate Hunter
      - to lower your ultimate cd
    3.
      Ingenious Hunter
      - only viable when building
      Galeforce

    Inspiration - secondary

    Magical Footwear
    +
    Biscuit Delivery

    Why should you consider inspiration?

Well it's true that i've said domination is the best secondary runes set, but hear me out, Twitch has hard times surviving during early stages and even tho domination offers good sustain, its value only increases as the game goes on, instead when taking inspiration you goal is to get resources a bit earlier into the game, making laning phase less painful.

    ECO-STRATEGY

    Magical Footwear
    - Once you receive the boots, Magical Footwear saves you  300G: the cost for
    Boots
. The additional +10 movement speed is worth an extra  120G.

    Biscuit Delivery
makes your laning phase a little easier, providing both mana and health sustain.

    • HOB

    Domination - primary(AP/AD)

    Hail of Blades

Allows you to stack your passive fast in combination with

    Venom Cask
. Within 3 hits and the
    Venom Cask
, your passive should be max stacked allowing you to use your E fast. Getting enemies on max passive stacks is essential to do the highest burst damage possible + DPS.

    - When i should take

    Hail of Blades
    over precision runes? -

    When building AP

    Hail of Blades
is only option you shoudl consider, meanwhile the situation changes when building AD. This setup enhances your ability to reach max stack on single pick ASAP, with this in mind, i'd say
    Hail of Blades
makes you more self-sufficient especially when lacking cc to follow up on, compared to
    Press the Attack
    or
    Lethal Tempo
    .

    Precision - secondary

    Presence of Mind
    +
    Legend: Alacrity

Always stick to this 2, most versatile options, increasing both mana regen and attack speed

    Max out

    Contaminate
first since it’s your main source of damage, then max
    Ambush
2nd to increase your stealth duration and boosting your movement speed and leave
    Venom Cask
    for last.

NOTE: you might also change the first 3 levels order,

    Contaminate
lv 1 gives more damage if you can reach a good amount of stack, but if you're invading or you can't afford long trades this early, my suggestion is to start
    Ambush

When building AP, you usually want to start

    Venom Cask
at lv 1, because it freely applies
    Deadly Venom
stacks onto enemies, and this translate to more damage dealt for each tick of poison.

    Then you max out

    Contaminate
first since it’s your main source of damage. After maxing out
    Contaminate
, you’ll want to spend your points on
    Ambush
if you think increasing your stealth duration and boosting your movement speed is better, or
    Venom Cask
    to increase slow.

IMPORTANT - Do not max R until lv 17,

    Spray and Pray
provides only extra AD when levelled up so it's pointless, when you don't actually build any AD.

    Item Builds

There's no "best" build for twitch as his items are very situational depending on your teams and the enemies team comp, but im going to give you some examples anyway

    AD

    • Kraken
    • Galeforce
    • BOTRK

    CORE

    • Kraken
    • Galeforce
    • BOTRK

    - When to go Galeforce / Kraken slayer?

Not an easy answer, it's very dependent on both playstyle, and team comps, but this is my general rule of thumb,

    Galeforce
is without a doubt the better choice if you like to play
    Twitch
more like an assassin or if they have important skillshots that you need to dodge or a champ that has a dash or a leap or whatever gap close, which most likely one shot you, but if anything else just go
    Kraken Slayer
    .

    SITUATIONALS

Usually build this items after you completed

    Infinity Edge
, unless you're stucked in particular situation where buying this tools earlier could be game changing.

    VS ARMOR / HEALTH REGEN

    VS AP OR CC

    COUNTER ASSASSIN

    DAMAGE

NOTE: tier value is based off how situational that specific item is

    Lord Dominik's Regards
    ---> S tier

    Mortal Reminder
    ---> A tier

    Maw of Malmortius
---> good stats + omnivamp and magic damage shield - S tier

    Wit's End
    ---> good stats + more on hit damage + mov.speed - S tier

    prefer

    Wit's End
    over
    Maw of Malmortius
if you are able to kite enemies, anything else buy
    Maw of Malmortius
, the shield value is just upfront better.

    Mercurial Scimitar
---> decent stats + good active - B tier (very situational)

    Guardian Angel
    ---> A tier

    Bloodthirster
--> only if you really struggle surving to poke / burst damage, you already receive plenty of sustain from other sources - B tier (very situational)

    Blade of The Ruined King
    ---> (discussed above) - S tier

    Titanic Hydra
---> is a unique option for twitch beacuse it synergizes with on hit damage and also grant AOE damage and more survivability (+ 500 HP) - A tier

    The Collector
    --->(discussed above) - S tier

    AP

    • AP

    • CORE

    SITUATIONALS

    DEFENSIVE OPTIONS

    ANTI-SHIELD

    MAGIC PEN

NOTE: tier values is based off how situational that specific item is

    Zhonya's Hourglass
---> good stats + great defensive tool against ad comps / assassins - S tier

    Banshee's Veil
---> good stats + great defensive tool against ap comps / assassins - S tier

    Shadowflame
    ---> A tier

    Void Staff
    ---> S tier

    - AD Twitch looks for opportunities to deal a steady stream of damage against grouped-up teams

    - AD Twitch needs at least 3 items to be really effective, but has tremendous DPS late game and does more AOE dmg (

    Runaan's Hurricane
    )

    - AP Twitch aims to do quick bursts in repeated short succession to get constant resets of

    Ambush
    .

    - AP Twitch has slightly earlier spikes thanks to AP items (cost/effeciency) but worse dps late game

    - AP Twitch has better defensive tools against assassins

they are not polar opposite gameplay wise, make your decision based off personal preference and team compositions

Early game is by far Twitch's worst phase of the game. Surviving and maintaining high cs is ADC primary focus, so try to not fall behind and if possible avoid getting pushed in, farming under tower is pretty hard with low AD/atk.speed. If you get caught out as Twitch there isn't much you can do as he is squishy so you need to make sure to not misposition and get CCd, also make sure you have river warded for anyone trying to gank you as most junglers in the meta right now can just run and murder you.

    • TRADING

You'll usually want to follow up support engages, so, for example, lets say Nautilus hits a hook, you'll want to throw (W)

    Venom Cask
on the enemy and start your (Q)
    Ambush
so you can get the burst of attack speed and finish off with (E)
    Contaminate
once they are out of your AA range as this means that you won't lose the time you could have autod while casting your E (your E takes time to cast and hit so you need to make sure you don't either die or let them escape from your range before casting it).

    Trading with

    Twitch
is really simple but there are just few rules you have to follow:

    1. When leaving stealth, first hit your target and then follow with W. Do not use W as the first spell after you leave your Q. This will let you reset the autoattack.

    2.

    Contaminate
has 35% bonus AD scaling, when
    Spray and Pray
is active (6 seconds) your bonus AD is increased 40 / 55/ 70 (based on
    Spray and Pray
lv) so is worth noticing that you can increase damage if you cast
    Contaminate
    while in ult.

    • ROAMING

if your wave is pushed in and you can't afford to walk up and farm, look for opportunities elsewhere, ping your support to help and roam, mid is typically your go-to option when seeking for kills, but remember to always ask yourself:

    • Do I have enough damage?
    • How fed is the laner i'm about to gank?
    • Can enemy jungler/support interfere?

If the answer to this question favors you then go for it.

What you want to achieve in this phase is to speed up your scaling towards late game, so my advice is to keep your focus on csing sidelanes and try to catch the enemy off guard with

    Ambush
    and
    Spray and Pray
    whenever is available.

    • TEAMFIGHT

Teamfighting as Twitch is pretty straight forward. You want to wait for someone on your team to initiate a fight. When the enemy responds, keep track of enemy's key ability before coming out of

    Ambush
, because i can't stress this enough, at every stage of the game you remain squishy even more withouth Q, then if you see the chance unleash everything you have on their damage dealers. If you cant reach their damage dealers you are also great at killing tanks with your passive DPS.

Flanking is also an option. When a teamfight is breaking out and you can find a flank angle on enemy ADC/Midlaner and burst them dead, you disable enemy dps completely and win the fight by yourself. It really depends on the situation and how things are looking. Depending on comps you can decide to fight front to back or go for picks.

Here is where the fun begins, at this point you will be melting people with your attack speed from your Q and the high damage from your R, just make sure you don't get too close otherwise assasins or bruisers will just burst you to one hp. Try to find good angles to ult from and also keep in mind to stick to your support when enemies have good counter picks on you, such as

    Rengar
    or
    Kha'Zix
    .
