Max Q>W>E

(If you're a beginner I highly recommend leaving this page open in champ select so you can lookup matchups and decide for yourself if you dare it today or go malphite instead.)

Also this is not a draven guide, this is a draven top guide. I will not go into details of how to play draven or all the mechanics you can abuse. This guide assumes you already know how to play draven. It instead gives you the rundown on how to transition into an effective top laner. I do have some micro tips for the difficult matchups, but that's it.

Champions that are not listed are so easy to beat that they're not worth mentioning.

Threats in Lane

all of those threats assume you're not fed yet, except for sett.

Threats:

Threats from the Jungle

Obviously depending on your laner the jungle matchup gets harder and vice versa.

Runes and explanation

  • Main
  • Vs Heavy CC

Just to be 100% clear, these runes give you the highest dps mathematically speaking, meaning if you see some high elo player pick something different that just means their rune setup isn't ideal and they're handicapping themselves because of their feelings. Most people haven't done any research and just pick whatever they feel like felt best. I actually did the fvcking math. Fr Fr this svht be bussin. It took some time but this is 100% the best runepage you can take if you want maximum DPS, objectively speaking.

Lethal Tempo was always the best Draven rune, always. It outscales Hail of blades on the 4th autoattack and gives bonus attackrange.

Presence of mind eliminates all mana problems you might have when poking someone under turret with W.

Legend bloodline is 6% Lifesteal + 100 Health making it a 100 times more useful than the attackspeed buff from alacrity, especially after the durability patch.

You can switch up Coup de Grace for Cut Down if you don't expect to get fed for some reason but think your enemies all gonna be massive health tanks.

Definitely take 10% attackspeed over 9 adaptive force, since you're gonna only build two items with attackspeed in total. Also you can switch health per level with the others but Health per level outscales armor at lvl 6-7 and mr at lvl 8-9 so there's that.

Absolute focus gives you free bonus ad, since you're not supposed to lose much health in lane anyway. Gathering storm is trash but better than any of the alternatives, it does give you a lot of ad if the game drags on. Don't fall for the nullifying orb meme, don't take it even vs 5 ap champs, gathering storm is better. (since there are no ap champs that can reliably kill draven except for leblanc)

And a quick rundown on the anti CC runepages

The reason you take Item CDR vs tons of unavoidable CC is that it lowers your QSS CD by almost 40 seconds when fully stacked, same goes for your shieldbow. Making you both tankier since your shieldbow will be always up and harder to CC.

You build these items in this exact order for maximum DPS

  • Standard vs 90% of matchups

I'm not going to add multiple Item sets since there is a simple rule I follow, that you can follow as well. Infinity edge is always your third Crit item. ALWAYS. So if you need armor pen you replace bloodthirster with Lord dominiks. If you need a QSS you can always just buy the small component instead of mercurial blade. But if you insist on merc blade you replace bloodthirster aswell.

Also thanks to the durability patch this is the best itembuild by far, it let's you 1v5 a bunch of meme point and click champs with no counterplay thanks to all the sustain, health and durability you get from the items in exchange for 12% armor pen from Eclipse which is a garbage item anyway and only viable because of the armor pen.

Also this itembuild let's you build up to 4 longswords in total, making it extremely versatile since you can have a weird amount of gold and still spend it all.

The ultimate Playstyle Guide

Once the game starts you immediately run towards this brush and wait there in case of a free kill.

You wait in that brush until the minions collide, if the enemy laner is there, mindlessly pushing the wave then immediately engage him by walking behind him and autoattacking him. If he is smart he will try to disengage without fighting, if he takes the bait then he will run towards you trying to kill you. If he goes for the bait kite towards the river brush, if he runs away you should be behind him kiting towards his turret. If he hides in a brush let him, and wait for a second axe instead. Once you have two axes ward the brush and all in him for a free kill. You can even bait him by going in melee range, since you shouldn't be losing unless it's jax with E or something similar.

From level 2 onwards you just keep pushing your enemy under the turret and everytime they go for cs you poke 'em. That way they either live CS'less or they lose tons of health. If they decide to abstain from farming completely you're obviously much more susceptible to ganks since your laner isn't low, but if they go for CS they should be at 10-30% health at all times. Meaning you can usually just outright kill the laner and then 1v1 the jungler. If the Laner has half a brain then he won't even react to the gank due to his low hp and will leave you to fight the jungler alone.

Also for the first 5-7 minutes of the game always go for the minions don't attack the turret, since you'll be dealing next to no damage and the level and gold advantage you get from hitting the minions far outscales the 10 dmg per auto you deal to the turret.

Your first back should be either at 1050 gold then you're buying three longswords. or at 1,3k gold then you're buying a BF Sword. Either way you shouldn't be backing before any of those points unless you got first blood and lost 90% of your health. FYI you can build up to 4 longswords that build into your build perfectly.

Your main goal is to get your 5 plates as soon as possible. Then if there is still time you head to mid/bot and get those 5 plates that they definitely have as well (since we assume your teammates are useless.. which they are). Pro tip, convince your useless teammates to leave lane by saying "Mid lets switch lanes for drake prio, so we get the next drake 100%" that way they don't suspect that you don't actually care about the drake but you're in mid for the gold.

Once you're like 2-3 levels ahead from anybody else and probably 1-3 items you can just do whatever you want, but if you want to be actually useful and effective I recommend just pushing top. That way they'll send 3-5 goons towards top lane and if you're any good at draven that means there'll be 3-5 dead goons. Worst case scenario you kill two and die, but your team enemies should be pushing other objectives to make up for it, best case scenario you kill 'em all and they just straight up ff blaming your enemy top laner for the loss.

And that's it. It is that easy.

I'll add a video at some point for the people who are adverse to reading.

With that being said gl to your enemies and have fun playing draven the right way.

Also abuse this as long as you can.. it will 100% be nerfed if draven top becomes meta or people realize how draven actually not only has the best early but also the best mid/lategame out of all adcs thanks to his scaling.

Thank you for this. I'm a draven one trick bot and always wanted to try him top since I had a feeling I could shit on most if not all top laners. I have legitimately not lost a game. It is disgusting.
