The Season 13 Suicide Aphelios Guide
The Season 13 Guide By Suicide Aphelios (Will Be Updating continuously)
Welcome To The Season 13 Suicide Aphelios Guide! I go by the name "Hidden" hence my twitch name "Hidden4Ever" (A follow would be appreciated!) and I thought I'd make this guide to help New/Current Aphelios players for their Season 13 Journey. I wasn't planning on playing at all in Season 13, I wanted to stop playing. But when I saw the new changes, I thought I should be the one step up and be their guide. There's rarely any Aphelios streamers except Remmacs, but he doesn't really stream anymore. So now I want to be the voice for however long that I can be.
My League IGN is Suicide Aphelios (Main Account) (NA) and my highest peak is on my Smurf Account, D3 99LP (Technically D2)
I named myself Suicide Aphelios after limit testing a lot in Season 11 and constantly dying to find combos, tips and tricks so that 1 day I could master this Champion.
(I promise it's just a league name)
In this Guide, I'll be explaining why my build is the way that it is, and why I choose Kraken over Galeforce. I hope this guide helps you and hope for others to benefit from it.
If you are here for the Runes/Builds, It's all the way at the bottom. If you need an in-depth analysis, please read the whole thing as every bit of this information is crucial.
For those of you who don't know who "Laserholic" is, he's a 1K LP Challenger Aphelios main who's taught me so much about this champion. All throughout Season 11 till now, he's given me so much Advice, tips and tricks to help me climb in ranked. I want you guys to go show him support by following his Twitch and Subscribing to his Youtube Channel. (Youtube Channel Will be the 7th Chapter in the Table of Contents "What if the enemy team has no tanks?")
I know that a lot of Pro/High Elo players go Galeforce majority of the time for the mobility, the dash, and the combos you can do with Galeforce. I've adapted to the playstyle earlier this season before the durability patch came out, and I have to say it was a lot of fun going for all these crazy combos in game. But after durability patch, everything became a different story. Everyone is more tankier now, everyone has more HP and people don't die as quick as they used to before. That's where my ideaology for bringing back Kraken Slayer came in. It's literally perfect to shred tanks and makes the durability patch feel non-existent. Not only that, but when paired when Lord Dominik's Regards (LDR), you get armor penetration alongside the passive by dealing bonus physical damage against champions with greater max Health than you. Now, the icing on the cake, Infinity Edge. True Damage + LDR with Infinity Edge is when you start packing that damage. So now, not only are you penetrating their Armor with LDR and the True Damage from Kraken, you're also getting bigger crits making everything smooth.
The only times I recommend you go Galeforce is if there is absolutely 0 tanks at all. You can go LDR/Bloodthirster 2nd into Infinity Edge 3rd. You can't go wrong going LDR anyways and plus it's much more effiecient than collector.
"Well Hidden, a lot of Aphelios players go collector, how come you don't build it?" The reason I don't go collector (Not anymore at least) is because I don't think it gives much value anymore because of the durability patch and because of tanks becoming meta again. (It's been hinted that tanks might be back in s13, hence the item changes) You can't go wrong going LDR anyways as it's an efficient item purchase.
If the enemy has no tanks, that's where you can go Galeforce. Now, this is one of the times where you can go collector 2nd just because they won't be stacking armor. Another build you can go is Kraken/Collector/Infinity Edge. Shoutout to my man "Laserholic" for teaching me this build. I will link his Youtube channel and show you a clip of how powerful Kraken/Collector can be.
The only time you need to go Bloodthirster 2nd is if they have 3 or more AP Champions on the enemy team. This can also apply to having Assassins on the other team having high burst damage to one shot you. Overheal + Bloodthirster w/Severum should be enough to save you. You need the lifesteal/shielding to survive their burst because trust me when I say this, their burst will hurt. A lot.
Now, you might be asking, "what's next after those 3 items?" This is where Runaan's Hurricane and Bloodthirster comes in, in most cases anyways. Runaan's Hurricane has become a viable option again because of being able to stack Lethal Tempo, getting that extra range and being able to kite more. Again, it is situational. The times you will need to be building this is there are 2-3+ Melee characters on the enemy team.
Now for the Bloodthirster Explanation. Ravenous Hunter has been removed from the game long ago. Omnivamp is non-existent. "Well Ravenous Hydra is in the game and can be stacked with Omnivamp, why not build that?" Because it's an inefficient purchase and won't do you any good. Aphelios is a Crit Reliant Marksmen who scales really well into the late game. Building Ravenous Hydra won't do you any good. You get the sustain you need from the lifesteal provided from Bloodthirster, and you get crit damage on top of that.
If you don't need Runaan's or Bloodthirster, the other situational items are self-explanitory. If enemy team is mostly AP, go either Mercurial Scimitar or Maw, depending on their CC. Everything else is of common knowledge, I don't think I need to go in depth for the other items.
There are some games where you can swap Runaan's for another Zeal item. I don't recommend you go "Mortal Reminder" as your team (mostly your support) can build grevious for the enemy team if needed. Your job as an ADC is to output as much damage as possible. By going "Mortal Reminder" you're simply losing damage. The 2nd most efficient zeal item you can go is "Phantom Dancer" if the enemy team is mostly and range, and if your team is looking for picks. It also synergizes well with Ghost for the extra movement speed.
Aphelios is already an immobile ADC to begin with. He has no Dash or escape mechanism. The reasoning for taking Ghost is because with Kraken Slayer, you're now an immobile ADC with no Movement Speed and No Dash. It's good into comps when they pick Champions such as Udyr, Nunu, and other Movement Speed Champions. I feel the value of Ghost is more efficient than having bonus MS from heal and getting so little HP back. You already get healing from Bloodthirster, along with severum and a shield provided by 3 different things.
Now you might be wondering, Overheal or Presence of Mind. The answer is pretty simple. I go overheal because I don't think Aphelios has mana problems. The shield provided from Overheal, along with bloodthirster and Severum is more than enough to survive longer and last longer in fights. With Presence of Mind, it's only good for lane bullying as you can splash your damage with infernum and get free mana back. I prefer the shielding value instead of getting mana back as I can be a lane bully in most scenarios.
I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. Coup De Grace is only good for snowballing in lane, but it won't do you any good if it gets to mid - late. Remember, we're now playing in Durability Patch and won't have any affect on the new item "Heartsteel". Cut Down will always be better and you can't go wrong with it. Aphelios has the lowest, if not one of the lowest base HP in the game. Don't forget LDR Paired with Cut Down makes killing everyone a bit more easier.
Now that games are longer, this makes Gathering Storm very useful. By around the 30 mins mark, you have a free B.F. Sword paired with Absolute Focus, that's practically an item right there. You don't get the same value if you go Domination second. This isn't Season 11 where Omnivamp still exists and you're lifestealing everything with Conqueror. There isn't a point in going "Taste of Blood" or "Treasure Hunter" because it won't do you any good. The Only Time I recommend you going Domination 2nd is if you're smurfing in low elo and you're looking to make a montage or something. Runes will be below.
For now, the answer is yes. If you're looking forward to choosing other keystones, I recommend PTA as it's a good alternative for taking short trades and you can proc it easily with Severum (Red) Q. Once you proc it, you're able to deal bonus damage to your target, making tanks a bit less tankier.
For now I'm a bit unsure about Fleet as it's really only good vs Poke lanes. You don't really need the Movement speed from it later since you have ghost, and you won't be able to deal much later vs Tanks. I'd say the only time to go Fleet is if you're looking to play for sustain, which you don't really need since you can start LongSword and 3 Health Potions.
Quick Aphelios AD ADC Build
Best Overall Build
Here is a list of Aphelios Best and Worst Matchups. I will be trying to make sure that these are always up to date. I hope you find this information useful.
After the Durability Patch and the New Pre-Season 13 changes, a lot has changed with the meta. Now, it seems as if tanks are going to be meta for a while, and Lethal Tempo Semms to be the most efficient Keystone. You're able to stack it because of how much tankier everyone is and gives the best Scaling with Kraken Slayer. It scales the best Mid to Late game and it has a lot of damage potential.
