Who Am I?

Hello my name is Mvplj55, I am currently a player for a collegiate league team at SFA. To be short and simple I have been maining shen for the past 2 years of my life and over time I have accumalated many tips and tricks and a great understanding that I will be sharing with you all today.

Starting off first is the runes that you will want to primarily take on shen to maximize your effectiveness in lane and on the map.

Why These runes??

• Breakdown

Grasp of the Undying

Rune

Grasp is simply one of the best runes you can take on shen because when mixed with Dorans Shield, and Shen passive can provide you massive sustain

Shield Bash

Rune

Shield Bash is great because more often than not you are going to take short term trades, rarely are you going to be all inning over a long amount of time, you should be fighting around your passive for the most part making shield bash better than demolish, and you don't want to necessarily run font of life as that would mean you are giving up tank stats for the added benefit that an adc can heal slightly more

Second Wind

Rune

Since you want to be playing around your shield passive and taking burst trades in lane, second wind allows you to sustain in lane and since you are going to be stacking hp with item selection the percent heal from Second wind scales as well. You can make an argument for conditioning due to late game scaling, but you are giving up more lane pressure by selecting a rune that gives zero benefit in laning phase. For Bone plating after the recent nerf and how easy it is to proc bone plating along with shens ability to block auto attacks you are getting minimal benefit due to redundancy

Revitalize

Rune

Revitalize is one of the few ways in the game that allow you to increase the amount of shielding your ultimate does through rune selection as well as improving the passive shield you receive

Cheap Shot

Rune

You're main engage tool 80% of the time will be your E

Shadow Dash

this paired with the percent health damage from your Q

Twilight Assault

makes you prominent lane bully in not just early but mid game to.

Ultimate Hunter

Rune

Ultimate hunter by far the best option to take on shen because It helps decrease the Cooldown time on youre global ult teleport.

Flash

Summoner Spell

Flash is and always will be a must on shen because it allows you to not only make great get aways but also provides other useful ways of engages with your E taunt.

Teleport

Summoner Spell

Teleport is my personal go to for every shen match up because it allows you to play hyper aggresive with your ult and still make it back in lane to farm on contest turret plating. TP aslo allows you to match a bot lane dive on your own team if you see a dive happening early and you don't have ult

Ignite

Summoner Spell

Ignite is a great summoner spell for shen because shen is already a lane bully with the mix of

Cheap Shot

and

Twilight Assault

mix ignite in and you become a massive threat to the top lane. Only take ignite if you know you can kill youre opposing.

Item Builds

Like most League champs shen will always have a diffrent build every game based on what is needed that game, here is a little help on what should be built just in case and dont be afraid to add your own flavor to it.

Matchups & Synergies

No champion is impossible to beat when it come to playing Shen but some are more difficult than other and im going to help cover the harder ones to play against based on his bad match ups currently in patch 12.14.

Tricks.

Ive given you some tips on how to play shen and what to do against certain matchups now here is some tricks to not only up your performance in game but to make everything a little more interesting.



1. When playing as Shen in laning phase always try to keep your Q
   Twilight Assault
   in the back line of the enemys minnions that way it is easier to not only proc your Qs slow passive but also to help to keep the enemy between you and your sword to proc those juicy empowered 3 auto attacks.




2. When crashing a big wave under turret, if the enemy is still there dont be afraid to walk behind them and taunt them out of turret into your big wave you will take tower damage but the amount of damage they will take from minnions is way greater.




3. Even though shen is scary in the front line he is also very scary when playing around the enemys flank because of his E
   Shadow Dash
   , he provides great threat potential and forces the opposing team to decide wether to take the fight upfront and sacrifice the carry or help the carry and lose the battle up front




4. I know this one is self explanatory but always look at your minimap a great shen will constantly have an eye on his teams health and situation, this is what makes or break a great shen player.



Final words

Shen is a great champion that can and will help you climb to higher elo when played right he provides great sustain in lane and on the map by providing global sheilding and adding numbers to an uneven fight, Im sorry that the guide was short but I hope that this has helped you understand how Shen can be played or made you want to play Shen.
