Shaco Guide

Everything you need to know about Shaco

Introduction

Hello! I am Kingson, or TouchDaBox in game, and I am fairly new to the Shaco community. I have played numerous hours with

Shaco
and have grown to love this champ. Currently I am a one trick Shaco player and have played him all over the rift and am here to share with all of you everthing I know.

Why play Shaco?

Shaco
is a very tilting champion to play against. You can play mind games with the enemy team throughout the entire game. Setting up box traps to lure the enemy team into a bad team fight is very addictive. Shaco is very strong in the early game and can be an asset throughout the whole game when fed. He is also very versitile. Shaco can be played top, mid, jungle, and support.

Pros/Cons of Shaco

Pro's

  • very strong early game
  • easy ganks
  • can one shot squishy champs (AD)
  • easy solo drag
  • versitile (can be played all over/can play AD and AP)
  • tilt factor
  •

    Cons

  • high skill gap (hard to learn)
  • very squishy
  • if cc'd you are basically dead
  • invades ruin your game
  • item reliant
  • hard to manage clone
  •

If you still want to play Shaco then lets begin.

    Basics

    • Abilities

    Runes

  • AD Jungle
  • AP Jungle
  • AP Mid
  • AP Top
  • AP Support

AD Jungle

Primary Runes

  • When playing AD Shaco Jungle we want to go with
    Hail of Blades
. As an assassin jungler we want to burst down the squishy champs in the backline as quickly as possible so this is a perfect suit.
  •
  •
    Sudden Impact
is a great pick because when Shaco hits an enemy champion coming out of
    Deceive
    (Q) he will do more damage because he is leaving stealth.

  •
    Eyeball Collection
is an important pick because it adds attack damage when completed at 10 eyeballs.

  •
    Relentless Hunter
is important because it adds movement speed. This will allow you to run around the jungle and gank quicker.

Secondary Runes

  •
    Legend: Alacrity
is a great choice because it adds attack speed and a lot of it!

  • I like to go with
    Coup de Grace
because if an enemy champ is running away/squishy enough, Shaco will be able to one hit and paired with
    Duskblade of Draktharr
, you will be able to escape unharmed because of its passive.

AP Jungle

Primary Runes

  •
    Dark Harvest
is the go to rune for AP Shaco Jungle. It increases AP damage over time every time you hit a champ that is below 50%.
  •

    • Every time Shaco slows an enemy champ (either by
      Backstab
      or
      Two-Shiv Poison
      (E)) then
      Cheap Shot
will kick in dealing true damage

  •
    Eyeball Collection
is still a good rune to go to even with AP

  •
    Treasure Hunter
is a good choice because you will be earning extra gold for killing enemy champs

Secondary Runes

  •
    Transcendence
is an amazing choice. By leveling up you will get more ability haste which will allow you to place more boxes. More
    Jack In The Box
    = larger box traps >:)

  •
    Gathering Storm
    helps with more AP power

The next two pretty much go together AP Mid and Top lane

AP Mid/Top

Primary Runes

  •
    Arcane Comet
is definitely the go to rune. His
    Jack In The Box
    (W) triggers the comet which has insane poking potential. Also his
    Two-Shiv Poison
    (E) +
    Arcane Comet
combo deals a lot of damage early game
  •

  •
    Manaflow Band
is important because Shaco runs out of mana quickly when laning.
    Manaflow Band
increases the maximum mana when you hit a champ with an ability
  •

  •
    Transcendence
is good for ability haste which is very beneficial for Shaco in lane
  •
  •
    Scorch
is an interesting choice for AP Shaco. However, it works hand in hand with
    Liandry's Anguish
    because
    Liandry's Anguish
passive also has burn which makes
    Scorch
    a valid choice

Secondary Runes

      •
        Biscuit Delivery
is my go to choice. I find myself running out of mana many times in lane and with
        Biscuit Delivery
I am able to replenish my mana and stay longer. However,
        Magical Footwear
        and
        Future's Market
        are also valid choices.
      •
      •
        Cosmic Insight
is pretty self explanatory. Both ability power and item haste are very beneficial

AP Shaco support is very similar rune wise as AP Mid/Top so I will only touch on the different runes

AP Support

  • Like I explained in AP Mid/Top
    Future's Market
is a valid choice. For support it can be very beneficial to buy items quicker to benefit the rest of the team.

Now we will begin to talk about item pathing

Items

  • AD Jungle
  • AP Jungle
  • AP Mid/Top
  • AP Sup

AD Jungle

  • Our starter options go as follows: either choose
    Gustwalker Hatchling
    to move through bushes quicker,
    Scorchclaw Pup
    to slow enemies, or
    Mosstomper Seedling
to gain a shield and survive longer.
    Gustwalker Hatchling
is meta at the moment so thats probably your best choice. Buy a
    Health Potion
if you think you need it.
  •

Our spells are typical Shaco spells. We have

      Ignite
      because with
      Deceive
      Shaco essentially has a free
      Flash
      . We are also carrying
      Smite
so we can get our jungle pet and secure neutral objectives.

  • First recall is best case scenario. Build
    Boots
every time and if you cannot get
    Serrated Dirk
on the first go around build
    Long Sword
    to substitute.
    Refillable Potion
is not necessary, buy them if you need them.

  • 99 out of 100 games you will probably be building
    Duskblade of Draktharr
. The passive is great to gain invisibility and it has good stats. However if you feel adventurous you can buy either
    Eclipse
    or
    Kraken Slayer
    . With
    Eclipse
you will gain a shield and do more damage. With
    Kraken Slayer
you will be dealing immense amounts of damage but do not have any security like the other two choices.
  •
  • The same case is with
    Boots
. 99/100 games you will be building
    Berserker's Greaves
    however, with
    Ionian Boots of Lucidity
you gain more ability haste. With
    Plated Steelcaps
    and
    Mercury's Treads
you can build those if the enemy team is either full AD or full AP. Not recommended because you will deal less damage but it is still an option.

  • The rest of the build is pretty typical, this is a one shot AD Shaco build so you will be dealing a lot of damage quickly but you are very squishy.

AP Jungle

  • See AD Jungle for explanation on starting options and spells. Same rules apply.
  •

  • First recall is best case scenario. If you do not have enough for the full first recall buy
    Boots
    and
    Sapphire Crystal
    with a
    Amplifying Tome
    (if possible).
    Refillable Potion
is not necessary, buy them if you need them.
  •

  • 99/100 games you will either buy
    Ionian Boots of Lucidity
    or
    Sorcerer's Shoes
    . Buy
    Ionian Boots of Lucidity
if you are equal or behind the enemy jungler. If you are very far ahead then you can consider buying
    Sorcerer's Shoes
    . I do not recommend
    Plated Steelcaps
    or
    Mercury's Treads
but they are an option if you see it fit.
  •

  • The rest of the build is typical. I laid out what I believe to be the best items, but buy what benefits you and the team the most.

AP Mid/Top

Just like the runes, Mid/Top are pretty interchangable.

Our starting options are

Doran's Ring
and 2
Health Potion
.
Doran's Ring
adds bonus health and ability power while also regenerating mana.
Doran's Ring
also adds health to the
Jack In The Box
(W) which will help with the minion wave/poking power. The
Health Potion
is necessary in this case so we can stay in lane.

Now you may be wondering why we have

Teleport
and
Flash
. Let me explain. Even though we get a free
Flash
on Shaco because of
Deceive
(Q) we take
Flash
for the extra tilting power/slipperiness it provides. With this
Deceive
(Q) +
Flash
combo we are practically ungankable which in turn tilts the enemy team. We take
Teleport
so that we can return to lane quicker.

Our first recall looks a little different than we are used to seeing. This recall is 800 gold in total. So once you get your wave in a good spot and you have 800 gold in the bank, recall, buy what you see I have laid out,

Teleport
back to lane and you are set. If you feel confident in your ability to play against your lane opponent,
Dark Seal
is a valid buy instead of
Sapphire Crystal
. I would switch
Morellonomicon
with
Mejai's Soulstealer
if you decide to buy
Dark Seal
.

Do not buy any mythic other than

Liandry's Anguish
:)

The rest of the build is very similar to AP jungle except we switch

Oracle Lens
with
Farsight Alteration
for the added bonus of vision.

AP Support

With

Spellthief's Edge
we are able to earn more gold by damaging enemy champions. Our goal with Shaco support is to make the enemy bot lane hate their lives, so we play agro (not throwing of course) and bait them into bad situations with
Jack In The Box
(W) . Bring
Health Potion
because we will need them.

Unlike Mid and Top we will bring

Ignite
instead of
Teleport
. This will allow us to stay agro and bring more utility to team fights. Still bring
Flash
to get out of bad situations.

Still build

Liandry's Anguish
even though we are support.

Everything else should look very familiar except for

Watchful Wardstone
. Build this item for the added heatlh and ability haste. This item will eventually turn into
Vigilant Wardstone
at level 13 which will add even better stats.

Now that Items and runes are done lets go over skill path

  • AD Jungle
  • AP Shaco (Max W)
  • AP Shaco (Max E)

AD Jungle

This may look a little funny but let me explain. Shaco will take

Jack In The Box
(W) for the added clear speed, I will later explain shaco clear path, then take
Deceive
(Q) for the possible level 2 gank or even more clear speed. We will then finish off the ability tree with
Two-Shiv Poison
(E) at level 3. Then put two more points into
Jack In The Box
(W) for added clear speed. Once we hit level 6 we always will take
Hallucinate
(R). After level 6 max
Two-Shiv Poison
, then
Deceive
(Q) then finish off
Jack In The Box
(W).

AP Shaco

Ap Shaco stays the same regardless of role. However there are a couple things we can consider changing up. If the enemy laner is ignoring the

Jack In The Box
(W) then max this first (this should always be the go to option). However, if they destroy the box before it is able to pop, consider maxing
Two-Shiv Poison
(E). This will allow us to increase our poking power even if we do not have our strong
Jack In The Box
(W). However if you are playing AP Shaco jungle then max
Jack In The Box
(W) anyway for the added bonus of clear speed.

Shaco Jungle Clear

What makes Shaco so unique in the jungle is his clear. Shaco has one of the fastest level 3 jungle clears in the game because of his box setups.

*Creds go to Facet's AD Shaco Guide for picture*

This is the most optimal start for Shaco jungle. Place one

Jack In The Box
in the river guarding your red side buff at 36 or 37 seconds. This will help deter the enemy team from invading. Then place your next
Jack In The Box
on rapter pit at 50 seconds. Immediately after the
Jack In The Box
is up place a second one in the raptor pit. Then finally place your third
Jack In The Box
just shy of the red buff pit or right above red buff. Once camps spawn
Backstab
the big raptor until death. Do not worry about the small raptors because both
Jack In The Box
(if placed correctly) will fully clear them. You will get level two off this so
Deceive
(Q) into red buff pit, place
Jack In The Box
behind red buff, then
Backstab
until death. Now you can look to gank mid or clear krugs to get level 3. Now look to bot lane for gank or look mid. If there is no gank clear wolves --> gromp --> skuttle --> blue buff. On shaco always look for ganks. His early game is very strong so always look to gank enemy champs and snowball the game.

*This guide shows you how to full clear on Red Side with box set up and no leash*

This concludes my Shaco guide. I hope you learned something from this and enjoy tilting the enemy team. Please let me know if I missed something or if I need to change something. Thanks!
