Welcome to my humble guide!

Hello, I'm Pyrath from EUW. I've played League of Legends and Shen since the ancient times. I started approximately when Kennen was released in 2010. I've been a Shen one-trick ever since I started playing. I've only peaked Gold in soloqueue because I haven't had an interest in ranked, but my fascination with theorycrafting and constant practice has given me wisdom in the ways of Shen. I mainly play Shen in the Jungle because I find Top Shen boring, so this will be a SHEN JUNGLE GUIDE. Jungle frees you from having to defend a tower as your ult wants you to abandon top for jolly co-operation.

(PSST. By the way, make sure to use a green chroma if available when jungling or you lose the jungle camo hidden passive.)

Runes

I've tried many Jungle runes and 3 of them have stood out from the rest. They are in order of my preference, starting from the strongest page:

Phase Rush
page is the one I've found the most success with.
Phase Rush
offers the most versatility. You can either chase and stay on top of enemies, or proc it for a fast retreat if necessary. It will make
Twilight Assault
drag-throughs easier and keeps you stuck to your enemies for attacks.
Nimbus Cloak
gives you that extra burst of speed when you use your
Smite
and
Flash
,
Transcendence
gives you greater Ability Haste and
Waterwalking
gives you power when in the river, which is great for contesting Scuttlers, Dragons and Herald/Baron. This page makes your APM potential higher than the rest of the pages. You can cast
Twilight Assault
more frequently for faster Jungle clears, and you can
Shadow Dash
more in fights and when traversing over walls.

Press the Attack
page is what I used to do by default before the
Phase Rush
page. It's a great overall keystone that doesn't care about your Adaptive Force. It will adaptively deal damage based on your level, and the % increase helps you and your team deal more damage and finish off opponents.
Triumph
is great for any ambitious gamer,
Legend: Alacrity
to make your Jungle clears faster and to increase your overall DPS, and
Last Stand
for even more damage increase when half health or lower. You can go
Legend: Tenacity
instead if you feel like you need it more than the attack speed, and
Coup de Grace
, although I think
Last Stand
is better as we have AOE damage. This page gives you stronger dueling damage and all-in potential.

Aftershock
is my least used keystone and I've pretty much dropped it altogether, because of how hit or miss it is. If you miss your
Shadow Dash
, you have no keystone. But if you're good at landing your taunts, then it's a great keystone for some extra damage and soaking up enemy damage.
Shield Bash
for those satisfying bonks,
Conditioning
for overall tankiness after 12 minutes, and
Unflinching
for those messy situations where you're getting kited and cc'd. Alternatives would be
Bone Plating
if you feel like you need a bit more tankiness early game (Think getting invaded),
Overgrowth
for some mid to endgame scaling and
Revitalize
for stronger
Ki Barrier
and
Stand United
. I think
Conditioning
is the strongest in terms of overall tankiness and
Unflinching
is the most helpful in the bottom row. This page is for when you need to be tankier than just what your items offer.

As you notice, your secondary path will always be Domination with

Cheap Shot
and
Ultimate Hunter
. With a ridiculous 4 second cooldown, Shen is able to proc
Cheap Shot
easily and repeatedly with red buff slow,
Twilight Assault
slow and
Shadow Dash
taunt.
Ultimate Hunter
is great with this Ability Haste stacking build, enabling you to use
Stand United
much more often.

Summoner Spells

Flash
is almost mandatory for Dash Flash combos.

Ghost
is for when you've got an acute need for speed.

    Skill Path

There is only one skill path and that's the Q max into E max. We need that monster damage from

    Twilight Assault
in order to stay in the game.

      Item Builds

My default item build is the

      Turbo Chemtank
      build with
      Titanic Hydra
as the first or second item. AOE for Jungle clearing is essential for Shen. The aim of this build is to increase your solo agency while also increasing your Ability Haste for more repeated casts, especially for your ultimate
      Stand United
      .

      Core Items

I tried to put the items in build order so that it reflects best what I'm trying to achieve.

      Titanic Hydra
keeps you up with the enemy jungler, who is most likely playing a champion better suited for jungle clears, and therefore we will be building it first with
      Tiamat
      rush, or second with
      Bami's Cinder
      into
      Turbo Chemtank
      rush.
      Bami's Cinder
item cost was dropped from 1100 to 1000 recently, and is probably a better item rush compared to
      Tiamat
because it's available earlier, allowing you to start clearing Raptors and Krugs earlier and more effectively. Instead of paying 1200 for a
      Tiamat
, you could perhaps buy a
      Bami's Cinder
      and
      Boots
at 1300. Once you have both
      Turbo Chemtank
      and
      Titanic Hydra
, Jungle clearing becomes a simple task.

      Turbo Chemtank
is also a great item for faster clears and much stronger ganking. It's Refuel passive was changed from stacking with attacks and moving to stacking with taking damage from large monsters and champions and moving. Therefore Shen's Jungle clearing with
      Turbo Chemtank
has changed a bit. You will maximize Refuel procs by maximizing movement in between autoattacks. If you do it properly, you should be able to proc Refuel twice on a single camp. Sometimes it's also better to kill the large monster last or with the second Refuel proc so it can keep attacking you, generating more Refuel stacks and making the clear faster by a few seconds (When killing Raptors for example).

      Dead Man's Plate
is also a good second or third item. It works great alongside
      Turbo Chemtank
. The health and movement speed both increase
      Turbo Chemtank
damage. Walking in between attacks when clearing a jungle camp increases your overall damage and gives you plenty of movement speed to go from camp to camp and to gank lanes more efficiently. I've been experimenting more with it as a second item and I like the fact that I can arrive faster to wherever I need to be and it offers a little bit more damage which we can maximize with the
      Turbo Chemtank
      playstyle.

      Randuin's Omen
is a stable third item. It gives you all the tankiness you would need at this point against any physical damage threat. It also has a strong active that is yet another slow on top of
      Turbo Chemtank
active. Building it will also net you 10 Ability Haste + 5 from
      Turbo Chemtank
Mythic Passive. It works well with the Warden playstyle of Shen, as the active will also reduce enemy champion AD and Critical Strike Damage from any oncoming threats, peeling your allies effectively. It suits nicely into this build as a third option and makes you a tricky opponent.

      Thornmail
is your typical third item and onward when you desperately need the healing reduction. Rarely it has to be built second.

      Boots

Boots I tried to put into order of most valuable to least valuable.

      Ionian Boots of Lucidity
are cheaper than tank boots and grant you
      Smite
      and
      Flash
cooldown reduction as well as 20 Ability Haste. Getting these early will speed up your
      Smite
quest completion and Jungle clearing speeds significantly. You might want to opt into tankier items by your 3rd and 4th items, like
      Randuin's Omen
      and
      Force of Nature
to avoid being too squishy when you're running
      Ionian Boots of Lucidity
      .

This guide is WIP. I will add in information regarding Jungle clearing, pathing, ganking and more. There will also be more builds and info on them eventually. Thank you for reading and good luck in the Summoner's Rift!
