Hello everyone,I'm a Mordekaiser main, mostly OTP,but I sometimes enjoy variety in both Toplane and Jungle. As of right now, I never took ranked seriously, even after reaching the middle elo of League. All of the tests and tips you'll read come from a 100 games experience in ranked and 1000-2000 games in normal queue.
The purpose of this build is not to carry games, altho it surely can, when ahead.
The purpose is to make your jungle life easier, as
Mordekaiser
is not a ganking jungler, is more of a objective taker. And i'll explain why right now.
Mordekaiser
passive,
Darkness Rise
,deals a flat amount of damage over time, but also does a % max health damage per second that scales with levels,up to LV 13,capping at 5% health.
However, his passive has a cap on the damage that it deals to monsters. As of late patch 13.4, there's no way to increase his damage to monsters greatly (Demonic embrace damage got set to a max of 40 per second).
Rylai's Crystal Scepter
will be one of your must buys, given your lack of mobility. Other items may include
Force of Nature
and
Dead Man's Plate
,but these will be based on the enemy team compositions and are optional.
If you snowball enough, while ganking occasionally after LV 6 with
Realm of Death
,it will be really easy to get kills or multikills, with the bonus stats from drakes and the gold of jungle, heralds and assists. With a fully grown pet, you can clear camps in a single Q cast, wit your passive damage clearing it,and doing so lets you keep the
Death's Grasp
uses to champions only.
Mordekaiser
scaling completely ends at LV 13,where all damage skills stop scaling,
Darkness Rise
is fully leveled and
Obliterate
level damage greatly decreases. Try to get the lead before it happens and your winrate will increase significantly.
Runes (Loadout)
These are the runes you can go for. Even if unconditioning has been nerfed twice since the durability update is probably the best option if you go jungle. Revitalize or overgrowth are both great choices, but revitalize helps a bit on sustaining early and with W shields.
Scaling Tank
Hybrid scaling
Against Fast/ranged teams
More speedy option
Items
These are the three main builds i suggest to go for, depending on the rune page you've chosen.
Rylai first goes for matches where everyone his more mobile, since ghost has a 210 seconds CD and can't use it everytime. Otherwise if there are 2/3 tanks go for demonic.

For summoner spells you'll be taking ghost 90% of the time,as flash isn't that great outside of flashing over walls or doing Q/flash surprise hits. Use ignite if they got major healing, like a healer support and a drain tank like
Aatrox
and
Warwick
.
New Group
Matchups and Synergies
There are the ones you should always look out. Other matchups can be easier or harder, depending on the skill gap.
Counters
Synergies
Good matchups
To keep in mind
Olaf
Champion
Olaf will delete you,no matter what happens. In early game especially he's able to fight you even if there's a jungle camp helping you,so avoid fighting him. He can't be ulted nor pulled with your E,and you can't chase him down or fight him properly until LV 10 and 11(unless you've ghost),where your passive is at near peak power.
Thornmail
is a must against him if you wanna trade with him.
Morgana
Champion
This is more of a natural counter, doesn't matter what role you're in. Her
Black Shield
can block your ult, pulls and slows, so wait until she uses it, and then pick your target properly with ult.
Warwick
Champion
Matchup is based on two things: if he brings you low enough, and if he can "parry" your ultimate with
Jaws of the Beast
and
Infinite Duress
. If he has lethal tempo too, don't commit on him unless you're ahead of him AND you got grievious wounds.
Lillia
Champion
Oh boy. This champion can literally ignore you,if she manages to dodge your abilties.
Force of Nature
is a great counter to her, so rush if necessary. If not, don't engage her until you got LV 6 or 11,where she can be chased with ult easier.
Quicksilver Sash
Item
Your worst enemy, literally. You can't ult anyone who has this,so commit to other targets who can't escape you. Use your ultimate ONLY if they used quicksilver first.
Sylas
Champion
Sylas can steal your ultimate, and if he ults a teammate while you're using yours, you'll do a 2v2 in the death realm. Situations will be different, but try to work together,as both you and sylas will be stronger, but teammates won't.
Nocturne
Champion
His spellshield will counter all of your abilities, including
Realm of Death
. Wait for him to use it, and then ult him,if needed. He's a great duelst,so beware on fighting before buying armor.
Hextech Rocketbelt
Item
The dash and increased movespeed can synergize well on morde, but the 40 secs cooldown can be hefty in a fight. Plus, you'll be squishier without bonus health/resistances. Use it only if ahead and if you can pick kills on your own.
Yasuo
Champion
If you didn't know, your
Death's Grasp
will pull champions, making them airborne. if yasuo knows about this, you can easily pull 2 or more champs and do a quick and lethal engage with
Last Breath
if done properly.
Horizon Focus
Item
Probably one of the most underrated items for Mordekaiser, as using
Realm of Death
will slow the target for a fraction of a second, making you deal more damage to your target. If you use
Riftmaker
,it'll stack to do 20% more damage to him, with 9.9% as true damage.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Item
All hail slowstick.
Kindred
Champion
You can counter a target inside her ult by using
Realm of Death
or pulling away with
Death's Grasp
. It will also steal any bonus attack speed she gained with
Dance of Arrows
.
Illaoi
Champion
It's a ultimater contest. Whoever ults first loses. Wait for hers and then go for yours.
Yorick
Champion
Again, same thing. This time,if he ults inside
Realm of Death
,maiden will ALWAYS die. So its a win-win unless he has
Quicksilver Sash
.
Shen
Champion
You can easily counter shen's
Stand United
by ulting as soon as he's about to teleport. Doing so will negate the help to his target, but will still teleport to the original location.
Rell
Champion
Her
Shattering Strike
will destroy your W shield no matter what. Careful on when you use it.
Tryndamere
Champion
Battle Fury
will make him immortal for 5 econds. Use ultimate only if you can soak his damage,as your ults have a similar cooldown, and he can duel you easily without armor.
Bard
Champion
Sometimes His portals will let him go over some terrain. Be mindful when ulting him or someone using one of his portals.
Viego
Champion
His
Heartbreaker
makes him unstoppable,so wait for him to use it or right after he possessed someone.,as there's a 2 sec delay to use it.
Malphite
Champion
You'll rarely ult a tank,but malphite
Unstoppable Force
is a big threat, being able to knock up a team while making him unstoppable. There's no way he will kill you unless fed and AP, but you can't negate his engages. Stay frontline so you can ult a carry if needed.
Wukong
Champion
Careful on ulting the clone. If you do,ult will be completely wasted. At least you won't stay 7 seconds inside the realm.
Shaco
Champion
You can see which one is the clone and which not by comparing the damage they take. Shaco clone takes more damage (35%), and deals less,so wait for the numbers first.
Here's some quick tips on how to improve on Mordekaiser,on all levels:
-Your
Realm of Death
will steal core stats, but won't steal tenacity, omnivamp or any secondary resoruce. That means if the situation lets you,try to pick the best target to focus on.
-The move speed bonus from
Darkness Rise
will increase at levels 6 and 11,goin up to 6 and 9% respectfully. This lets you have much better fights during ults, and better time chasing carries down. Same goes for the passive damage, scaling by 1% Max Health every 3 levels.
-
Obliterate
scales with AP,but most of the damage comes from levels, as it deals bonus isolation damage from ability levels, but raw damage scales with
Mordekaiser
level. This lets you build defenses early,or raw health items.
-
Death's Grasp
and
Obliterate
hitboxes are slightly bigger at the edges, much like
Aatrox
's Q 1 and Q2.
-
Indestructible
cooldown starts as soon the shield expires,or as soon as you use it twice to heal. Try to use it when not focused as 3 seconds can make a difference between living and dying.
-Your cooldowns greatly decrease as you gain levels, going from 9 to 4 seconds on
Obliterate
and from 18 to 10 on
Death's Grasp
. Your powerspikes are exactly at level 6,9 and 13,with the best one being at 9.
- While most players recommend
Nashor's Tooth
as one of the best items for morde,I find it lacking on defensive stats, thus not reliable outside of dueling. It's still a good option, but not the best outside toplane.
-
Indestructible
lets you cancel the animation of autoattacks constitenly, doable twice.
- if you autoattack right after
Obliterate
you can considerably accelerate your next autoattack. However,if you do it with the PROJECT:Mordekaiser skin on, it will appear much more janky. You can also hide your
Death's Grasp
animation by doing the same thing with any skin other than project.(note:it WILL NOT cancel the pull effect itself, only
Mordekaiser
's body animation)
-You can use
Zhonya's Hourglass
and keep your passive active, however you can't use zhonya while using any abilities,as all of
Mordekaiser
spells have a channel,albeit short.
Remember: you're the player,so doing mistakes is fine. But trying new things is the step that lead to fun,and victory. Try these options and pick yours. Good luck with your games!
Middle elo Mordekaiser OTP,who uncovers all strategies, interactions and matchups to guarantee the best Mordekaiser experience you can, offering in-depth guides<3
Hey surelynottop, this was such a helpful guide. I felt like I had such an easy time farming, and I even felt like I could fight people in river decently. I was against Shyvana and she was trying to drag at lvl 4 like me. I caught her, but her team responded and mine didn't. That's ok though I know it happens. Either way I got two more drags and two rifts. They surrendered. It was a pleasant time.
The only thing I was going to ask about was when you generally try to get dragons, but I saw after my first back, I was surely tanky enough to sneak it, but darn sneaky Shyv got there first. lol
I read a lot of guides about all kinds of champs, and this was the best one I've read in a while. Thanks!
