Introduction:

Hello, I am a Kai'Sa one trick from the EUW server, I have over 1000 Kai'Sa games in total on various accounts and I think this champion is one of the things that I know a lot of and I know what I'm talking about. This guide will be split into five different parts (including this one): - Introduction - Runes - Summoner Spells - Skill Path - Items

Runes:

There's really only one keystone you can go on Kai'Sa and it's Hail of Blades. The reason behind this is her passive, Second Skin, which makes her every fifth auto-attack to the target deal percentage missing health magic damage. Why this works is because three free hits from Hail of Blades synergize together with your W which applies two. This is very important and stacks the passive pretty fast and after a certain amount of items, it can solely one shot the enemy.

In absolutely every scenario you will go Taste of Blood, it helps with sustain in lane and each Sudden Impact and Cheap Shot are basically useless to Kai'Sa. Cheap Shot literally can't be applied and you apply Sudden Impact only when you use your ultimate (excluding items).

In the second row you have two options, Zombie Ward and Eyeball Collection, but you should probably go Eyeball Collection. You can go Zombie Ward in higher elos, where people ward and you can actually play around it much better. In lower elos, where you will most likely get a lot of takedowns, Eyeball Collection is just free damage.

In the last row, you should just go Ravenous Hunter, it helps with sustain and actually scales pretty well if you have precision and Legend: Bloodline in the secondary path. If you don't want to go Ravenous Hunter you can go either Ingenious Hunter, if you are going to buy items with cooldowns (e.g. Zhonya's, Galeforce etc.) or Ultimate Hunter, if you just want to use your ultimate more often.

For the secondary path, you can go either inspiration or precision, inspiration being much more popular.

If you are going inspiration, you really have only four options: Magical Footwear, Biscuit Delivery, Cosmic Insight and in certain situations, you can go Time Warp Tonic.

It's really up to your preference, but you should probably go Cosmic Insight if you are going to buy items with cooldowns. Time Warp Tonic is very situational, I would go this rune only when I need sustain and I'll go Time Warp Tonic only with Biscuit Delivery.

If you are going the AD build, you can also go precision, and in this case your options are: Presence of Mind, Triumph, Legend: Alacrity, Legend: Bloodline, Coup de Grace and Cut Down.

You will go Presence of Mind in 90% of the games, it helps with your mana when you don't have biscuits and it can actually be very useful once you are low on mana and you get a takedown and fill it up. Triumph is based on preference, and you can go Triumph but I don't think you should depend on this rune to do the outplays like with some champions that use it, still very viable though.

I think you should always go Legend: Bloodline, very useful, especially with Ravenous Hunter, works very well, especially in the mid and late game. Legend: Alacrity is also very viable and you can use this rune if you just don't want lifesteal.

In the last row you will most likely not take a single one, but you can either go Coup de Grace or Cut Down if you really want to. Coup de Grace synergizes with passive very well, and well, if you wanna use it, you can. Cut Down is pretty broken if they have a team that builds a lot of health, and you should use it only in that case.

In very rare scenarios, you can go Fleet Footwork, the rules from above apply, you will just use the same logic and make your rune page. You can go this keystone when they have a lot of poke and you need sustain, but if you really need sustain, just go Time Warp Tonic, very unnecessary keystone, but it's there.

  • HoB (Ex. 2)
  • HoB (Ex. 3)
  • Fleet

Summoner Spells:

You will always go Flash, and one of the three summoner spells: Heal, Exhaust, Cleanse.

Heal is the most common summoner spell and you will use this summoner spell unless you need Exhaust or Cleanse.

I would go Exhaust as a preference or if they have a lot of champions that want to go in. Sometimes it's gonna be very awkward going Exhaust if your support wants to go Exhaust too, but you should probably try to trust them to do the thing. Example of champions that want to go in would be Kennen, Samira, Zed, Qiyana etc.

Now, Cleanse is very useful when they have CC, I would go Cleanse if they have one or more of heavy cc/point and click cc/or just if you don't dodge you're dead kind of cc. Examples of those would be: Leona, Pantheon, Morgana, Ashe, Lux, Rammus etc. Keep in mind you can cleanse a slow, and you can't cleanse suppresions.

Skill Path:

You can go only two skill paths with Kai'Sa, you can go Q -> E -> W or Q -> W -> E, you will max W second only when you go AP, in every other situation you will max W last.

  • Q->E->W
  • Q->W->E

Item Paths:

Currently, there are three viable builds on Kai'Sa, the AD build, the AP build and the Lethality build, most popular currently being the AP build. I'm not gonna talk much about the items, because you can see them below, but I'll be going over each one and how and why it works.

As you know, Kai'Sa has three abilities that can evolve once you hit 100 AD, AP and AS respectively, AD build tries to max Q and E, AP build tries to max all three, and Lethality can either max only Q or all three abilities.

With AD build, you will start Doran's Blade, why Doran's Blade? Because Doran's Blade? Because you need 100 AD to evolve your Q, and you start with 8 AD. If you start Long Sword, you will just upgrade it into another item, and lose the starting 10 AD. After the Doran's Blade, you aim to buy Noonquiver, Pickaxe and Serrated Dirk. When you have all three items together with Doran's Blade, your Q will be upgraded. Depends on what items you choose to build, you will unluck E with you have your attack speed item (Phantom Dancer, Runaan's Hurricane or Rapidfire Cannon), together with attack speed boots. If you don't get it immediately, you are probably very ahead and you will get it in one or a few levels. It's important to add you can still start Long Sword if you need sustain, or if you don't plan to build Collector and want it.

With AP build, you will start Long Sword, you are doing this because you want to get Serrated Dirk + Manamune as soon as possible, in order to get your Q evolve. You will try to get Tear of the Goddess your first back together with dirk (1150 gold) and that should be your ideal back. This build scales very well, so every stacking the tear as soon as possible will be very important. After that you will buy Nashor's Tooth, which gives you 50% AS and 100 AP. That, with attack speed boots, will give you both W and E evolve.

With Lethality build, you will start Long Sword and build into Essence Reaver or Collector, you should be able to get Q evolve once you hit a full item and a component (either hammer or dirk), even though I would try to get a dirk after collector for more damage, because it builds into Duskblade, which you will be building third. If you want W and E evolve, you will build Nashor's Tooth fourth, together with attack speed boots.

AD Build: - Don't go Collector and LDR, just choose between the two if they have squishies or not, it just doesn't work and it's waste of gold, LDR works well even if they are squishy, so if you need to kill one tank and no one else can, go for LDR and don't worry about it. Of course, if you go LDR, you will be going Kraken into Phantom Dancer into LDR, don't rush Collector second. - You will always need one of these items: Phantom Dancer, Runaan's Hurricane and Rapidfire Cannon. You will be going these as a third item, if you play on going collector, if not just go for the Phantom Dancer second. Phantom Dancer is used for DPS and movement speed, you can do a lot of kiting with it and it's generally super good and would be my first choice. Second choice is Rapidfire Cannon, just generally very useful and you can use it for extra range. Runaan's is just there if they are all walking close to each other in teamfights, or they have a lot of frontline. - I recommend always going Infinity Edge because it's a lot of damage. If you really can't breath, you can maybe try to build a bit defensively and skip it, but in SoloQ, you should probably try and be as strong as you can and try to carry.

AP Build: - You need Muramana and Nashor's Tooth as soon as possible, so you will not build your mythic until at least 3rd item, but you can also go mythic fourth. - In this build, as well as any other I wouldn't recommend going anti-heal because you should probably try to get someone else to buy it, but you can if you really have to. - Even though it's AP build, Guardian's Angel can very well work, and I even recommend it if you have a high bounty or just want to have some safety. - I don't personally like going Collector with this build, but some people really enjoy it and you can give it a try and see does it work for you.

Lethality Build: - Works very well into squishy teams, I wouldn't really recommend building it into tanks or bruisers. - You can choose to go Essence Reaver or Collector first, and then build the second one right after that (Early Game buys is supposed to mean like 'or') - You can pretty much choose between safety and W and E evolves, so that's up to you, generally a very underrated and not so popular build, even though it was played in LPL- like once.
