Jungle Guide - Viego

In depth guide for Viego in the jungle.

If you find the guide helpful check out my video ty<3.

Runes

  • Rune Page

For your runes it's relatively easy to understand. You want to take

Conqueror
as it is the only rune viego really likes to use. He already inately likes healing and this just gives him more. It keeps us in the fight more because of this and that means a higher chance to get a posession and swing a fight. The reason we don't want
Lethal Tempo
is because viego aim's to use his passive efficiently and for that his abilities would have to be really low cooldown with a high ability haste build to reach the balance of abilities and auto attacks. Secondly you are quite squishy and as a melee champ you will have trouble sticking with the target and staying alive. All other main keystones are pretty sucky on him so no explanation there. For secondarys we want
Triumph
for the healing on resets,
Legend: Alacrity
because it helps us reach the balance of attack speed and ability haste without itemizing too hard into attack speed, and finally
Coup de Grace
as it gives more damage to lower health targets which helps us GET resets.

For our secondary we take

Magical Footwear
for more sticking power and
Cosmic Insight
for summoner spell haste (decreases
Smite
cooldown so it's pretty good on all junglers). The reason we don't take anything from the other trees which are typically better is:
Domination
has been giga nerfed and no more Ravenous Hunter,
Resolve
is almost strictly for laning phase which junglers do not have and
Sorcery
just doesn't fit viego as it's almost exclusively meant for spellcasters.

Starting off you will take your

Blade of the Ruined King
. This is your main ability and it helps not only clear your jungle but for duels too. It gives you the most dps because it allows to use your passive right off the bat. After that level 2 take
Harrowed Path
as it gives you bonus attack speed and movement speed to speed up your clear. And on level 3 take
Spectral Maw
to complete your basic abilities. You don't need 2 points in
Blade of the Ruined King
as it doesnt drastically increase the clear speed over taking
Spectral Maw
third. You are going to be maxing the same abilities in the same order every game. There isn't a reason to change the skill order because
Spectral Maw
is not a good spell to level up. It gives the least benefit out of all of his abilities. Your maxing order will be
Blade of the Ruined King
into
Harrowed Path
into
Heartbreaker
into
Spectral Maw
.

Items and Builds

  • Standard Build
  • Crit Build
  • Tank Build

Standard build

For the standard build we want to start

Mosstomper Seedling
as it is the best jungle item as of right now. The other 2 feel lackluster but rarely you can swap it out for
Scorchclaw Pup
. Our first item will ALWAYS be
Blade of The Ruined King
as it gives us everything we need. It gives enough attack speed for us to not need any more for the remainder of the build, lifesteal which is great on viego and of course attack damage. Second item will be
Divine Sunderer
as it also provides good stats and it builds from Sheen. Because of Viego's passive Q doublestrike after hitting an ability
Sheen
has really good value and the entire item even gives us lifesteal and a great mythic passive (%armor and %magic resist shred). After that the build gets funky. We can pivot into any bruiser item from
Death's Dance
or
Maw of Malmortius
, to
Ravenous Hydra
or
Wit's End
. After those items we can situatinally get
Chempunk Chainsword
,
Dead Man's Plate
,
Spirit Visage
, but we will mainly aim for
Guardian Angel
as it is a good item in general with Viego's good wakeup and it can give us a second chance at resets. For boots we take either
Plated Steelcaps
or
Mercury's Treads
. Whatever fits the game.

Crit Build

Again our bread and butter will be

Blade of The Ruined King
but after it we go into
Kraken Slayer
or
Immortal Shieldbow
depending on the enemy team. If we need the shield for a little extra survivability we take
Immortal Shieldbow
but if we want pure damage or are facing against tankier teams
Kraken Slayer
is too good too pass up. For our third item we can take either
Lord Dominik's Regards
,
The Collector
or
Essence Reaver
. Against tankier team compositions take
Lord Dominik's Regards
and take
The Collector
against squishy teams ONLY if you are ahead. Otherwise for burst combos take
Essence Reaver
. Our 4th item will always be
Infinity Edge
as it is way too good of an item. For the final item we can take
Bloodthirster
,
Mercurial Scimitar
or
Guardian Angel
. For dueling take
Bloodthirster
, for teams with only 1 Crowd Control source you can take
Mercurial Scimitar
and in general you will want
Guardian Angel
for the same reasons as before. For boots same as before either
Plated Steelcaps
or
Mercury's Treads
depending on enemy team.

Tank Build

Finally for the tank build AGAIN we like

Blade of The Ruined King
, but now for our mythic we can chose between
Iceborn Gauntlet
and
Heartsteel
depending if we want more health or resistances. Preferably you go
Iceborn Gauntlet
every game because
Heartsteel
forces us to index too hard into hp. But if we do take
Heartsteel
the next item shoul exclusively be
Sunfire Aegis
after that continue indexing into a bit of resistances. When going
Iceborn Gauntlet
though its the opposite dont index too hard into resistances but build items with hp like
Spirit Visage
or
Dead Man's Plate
. For the last item for bot of the builds there is 4 options
Anathema's Chains
,
Randuin's Omen
,
Force of Nature
and
Gargoyle Stoneplate
. Go
Anathema's Chains
against single threat compositions. Go
Randuin's Omen
against a lot of AD Crit champions. Take
Force of Nature
against AP users and if you want the speed. Finally you can take
Gargoyle Stoneplate
for more resistances and a big shield to block burst damage from assasin foes. For boots again take
Plated Steelcaps
or
Mercury's Treads
based on enemy champions.

Matchups and Powerspikes

Matchups

Viego doesn't have any tand out GOOD matchups. Most of his matchups are NEUTRAL and can swing both ways. However he has a few unplayable BAD matchups like

Zac
,
Bel'Veth
,
Kindred
,
Lillia
,
Darius
and
Rengar
. Against these matchups either FF or try to farm to your
Blade of The Ruined King
. After getting the item you are at your strongest so try to make plays. If you cant make plays go for trading objectives when the enemy jungler is on the opposite side of the map as you. Don't permanantly farm as you are outscaled by all of the champions above.

Powerspikes

Your biggest powerspikes will be level 6 when you unlock

Heartbreaker
. The next spike will be upon completing
Blade of The Ruined King
, after this though Viego platoes until the next full item (
Divine Sunderer
,
Iceborn Gauntlet
,
Kraken Slayer
). After this point Viego doesn't scale well, try and continue to make plays to keep your self ahead of the game curve as you will fall off hard if you don't.

Early Pathing and Ganking

For your pathing you can start any camp in the game as

Viego
is a cahmpion made for jungling. Your first clear should just be a full clear from red side to blue side most games. But obviously depending on your laners you should always path towards the strong side of the map. Try and provide protection for your strong side of the map. Don't try to bail out losing lanes as they will at best continue going even. Get the good players ahead. As for your ganks. Look to stun people with your
Spectral Maw
and
Harrowed Path
combo which allowes you to be invisible while charging the stunning bolt. This is basically the only gank setup you have so use it wisely.
