Intro

Hi everyone, My name is Dino! I have been playing League of Legends for around 3 years now. I am a Gold player on the NA server, yuck ikr. My favorite champion is Kayn. I have around 500K points on him including my smurfs. I love versatility of Kayn, the way he can be played into any team comp, the potential he has is insane. In this guide I will tell you everything I know about playing Kayn the Shadow Reaper, I hope I was able to help some of you guys, and best of luck on the rift.

Runes

Kayn has several different rune pages he can run. I personally think that First Strike is the best on him right now, you get double the orbs from attacking enemies. First strike should be the go to rune page for Blue Kayn. Red Kayn should be played as a standard Conqueor Bruiser. The scaling build is Dark Harvest with Inspiration secondary, you should play this into matches that will go into the late game. Knowing which form to go can be tricky. I personally will only go red if they have 2 or more tanks or if my top laner isn't a bruiser or tank.

Summoner Spells

The summoners are pretty straight forward. 90% of the time I run just Flash and Smite, however if you are sure you are going to invade the enemy jungler or into a super aggressive team, Ignite can be useful.

Skill Path

Always max Q first , take 2 points into Q at level 3 as it will help you clear faster. Q>W>E max.

Item Builds

Pretty much standard builds on Kayn. Prowlers can be swapped for Duskblade of Draktharr. Murmana is a must on both forms. Always buy a tear on your first back.

Master Yi

Champion

Master Yi is a very tough matchup for Kayn. He farms as good as you, does damage as good as you, and can dodge your whole combo with his Alpha Strike(Q). The best way to play against Master Yi is to early invade him. Ward in his jungle to figure out where he is starting and go to the opposite buff and steal it. If you can take more than just the buff, go for a raptors or gromp as well. This will put him super far back and he'll spend the rest of the game trying to catch back up.

Warwick

Champion

Warwick is another very tough matchup for Kayn. He out heals Red Kayn, out damages Blue Kayn, farms insanely fast, and can match your mobility with Blood Hunt(W). The best way to play against him is to take advantage of his lvl 3 gank that Warwick does almost every game. Play around your teammates that are low. Prioritize Scuttle Crabs as Warwick doesn't tend to do Krugs very often.

Lee Sin

Champion

Lee Sin is one of the best matchups for Kayn. You out damage and out heal him at almost every stage of the game. You farm faster, move faster, gank better and overall are just a better champ. Lee Sin also usually skips Krugs, so again prioritize Scuttle Crabs as usually you will have the level advantage from your full clear and will almost always win the 1 v1.

Yasuo

Champion

Having a Yasuo on your team can be very good as Rhaast's W will knock up enemies and allow Yasuo to R. Yasuo and Kayn have very good synergy.

How to Play Kayn

Jungle Clear



You will want to do this full clear unless you are up against a champion that you need to early invade.

Leashed Red Buff, Take E 2nd, Go through Krug's wall, Hit Big Krug, Stay on the wall of Krug pit and Q on cooldown, E through to Raptor Pit, Hit the Big Raptor once with an auto attack, Take one step back then Q through all of the Raptors, Hit the Big Raptor untill your Q is on 2 second cooldown, Walk to the bush and Q through all Raptors, Take another point in Q, Approach Wolves, Smite the Big Wolf the second you see it, auto attack it and then Q through all of them, auto attack the Big Wolf 2 times then E through the wolf pit to the Blue Buff, Auto attack the Blue Buff 3 times and then Q the wolves that approach, Run to Gromp and auto attack it once, Run to the other side of Blue Buff and auto attack it once, Q through both camps, Take both of your refillable potions, Stay against the top wall and Q into the wall to cancel animations, Take a point in your W Proceed to scuttle, Cast your W but before it hits smite the Scuttle, Q through it and auto attack. You have now finished a full clear with scuttle at 3:20.

Early Game

One of the rules a Kayn player needs to live by is F.F.O. Farm, Form, Objectives. I did not come up with this slogan, that was Karasmai v9 the Best Kayn World. Farming is the single most important thing on Kayn. Getting your form should be quite easy with First Strike as it gives double the orbs. Objectives shouldn't be gone after pre-form unless you can safely guarantee that you can get it without dying. Prioritize going after champions that will give you the orbs that you need. Ex: Enemy Team has a Darius Top, Nocturne Jg, Lucian Mid, Ezeral ADC, Nami Support. You should always go Blue Kayn here so you would want to focus ganking mid and bot early. Never be afraid to repeat gank a lane. When Playing Kayn never gank through the River bush, you want to use E and go around any vison to surprise your enemies.

Mid/Late Game

During the mid to late game, you want to focus getting dragons and helping your laners get towers. Be sure to always be farming when you're not taking objectives, and invade as much as you can. Rift Heralds are super important to my play style, I am always willing to give up dragon for a Rift Herald. Mid to Late game is when grouping with your team starts to get super important as most champs can have a fair fight with you now. Try not to get picked off and play around your team as much as possible.
