Chapter 1 :Wanna play Ryze ?Well buckle up buttercup because things are about to get rocky for you. Not only is Ryze terrible inside of solo q below a gold rank, he's also extremely hard to get right, and his strength comes from coordinated play, scaling, and proper wave management. But he has redeeming qualities as well. He's a blast to play, wave's don't exist around him, and he's never banned. Plus he's good at dueling, sidelaneing, splitting and team fights (to an extent). His mid game 2v2 is pretty good, and he's got good damage share. Great utility pick with the way that we build him as well. So while it's not all ups, he's got some good ones.

I've been playing League of Legends since Season 7 and playing Ryze as my main character since Season 8. Personally love the character but using him effectively (especially in solo q) is a daunting task to undertake, so I'm here to point you in the right direction (hopefully). I usually sit in gold to plat Elo, so take everything with a bit of salt and always test before you buy.

Really sucks to play against, try to avoid till like 3 items.
Jesus save us, she can move and cast, you are FORCED to stop and cast.
Don't even think about trying to 2v2 this guy.
Fuck this, literally no angle to interact with her. She's trades and pushes the wave at the same time just like you, BUT she still has her shield in her kit.
God forbid you ever have to play this matchup.
Wanna see how fast you can break a keyboard ?
Yeah, this monstrosity wins at 4 and you never recover.
Just don't.
Even worse than zed.
Just when it feels like a normal melee vs ranged matchup....she kills you.
Wouldn't recommend, but I do it, it's doable.
God, such good gank setup. If he takes predator he'll out roam you too. He out pushes you until like 9 with mythic I think. Disgusting.
Way too easy for Viktor to get upgrades, don't recommend unless you know you're just a better player.
You can't even tickle him.
Legit unplayable.

Legit if you space correctly this matchup perfectly playable, and winnable.
Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse. Or qss Ryze can use silvermere dawn.
Pretty simple, all he can do is all in you at 6 but you win via the wave so just try not to get flashed on.
Legit just bully all lane phase and keep at arms length with rune prison. 
Same deal as Yone, just harder.
Literally un-killable, just roam on the big boy.
Morde mid ?? in season 12 ? ok.

If you know how her daggers work she's all yours dog.
Pushover lane, just watch out at 6. At 11 she gets a Glock and can roll up on a bitch anytime.
Use the turrets to help shove the wave.
Zero interaction. Just bounce waves and roam.
Tricky, but if you use the wave he's easy to deal with
Legit if you position in the pockets of the lane diagonally across from her and force her to come through the lane that you should be shoving, she HAS to land her chain to even out the advantage. Forcing her to decide between you and the wave is the key to victory.
Play in the wave, but slightly behind and dodge e. That's the game plan.
Basically perma neutral wave state. 
No biggie, just don't get all in'd level 2.
Not hard, legit all you have to do is dodge the bubble that every Zoe throws over the thick river wall.
Position inside and slightly opposite side of the wave and wiggle, free every time.
Out shove, out trade, out perform. 
Unironically is playable, unless you get 2v1'd like 3 times pre 6 min.
Sylas before Sylas. Just predict the best spots for his parallel convergence (w) and you'll be fine. Also don't face check. 
100% Skill based matchup.
Like Viktor, but worse. Easy enough to lane against.
Conclusion : why play Ryze ?﻿
The short answer is, you shouldn't. But the long answer is you might enjoy battlemages and want to pick him up, or you want to expand your pool. Maybe you want to wield a weapon that looks like a knife, but is so blunt that stabbing would only leave bruises. Whatever it may be Ryze is a pretty low end pick right now, especially for solo q, but he's super fun, and Highly skill expressive. If you want a champ that legit is all skill, Ryze is probably for you.
