Introduction

Hi, I'm Numpadd, a gold elo player, playing on EUW Server and currently summoner level 250 with about 1.5k hours of playtime. I've started playing League of Legends at the End of Season 8 and I've been playing pretty regularly since then. I know that it doesnt sound promising that i am in gold elo, but I guarantee you that the strategy that i'm about to show you works (I'm currently at about 80% WR with this in like 40-50 games).

This is my detailed Guide to Toplane Trundle with Ignite and Lethal Tempo (maximum abuse incoming!)

As a Toplane main, I always played a lot of champs like Garen, Darius, Dr.Mundo, Sett, etc.

But at the start of Season 12 I fell in love with this new Trundle Build, running LETHAL TEMPO and IGNITE.

In the following sections I will try to give you my best explanations + examples on basically everything you need, so go check out the following sections and finally succeed with this strategy in your ranked games too!

Runes (Loadout)

My recommended "Go To" Runes page is the one you see below: Lethal Tempo, Triumph, Legend:Alactriy, Last Stand, Demolish and Bone Plating. Since the lethal Tempo rework, the rune really fits the playstyle of this pick as well as Trundles overall Kit. Triumph helps Trundle survive in Teamfights and also lets him 2v1 most matchups + the enemy Jungler since you're a F***ing moster in duels. You also want to take Demolition EVERY GAME because you're a splitpushing duellant, destroying Turrets in 5 Seconds (legit). If you are really confident that you'll win the matchup really hard, you can also go "Revitalize" instead of Bone Plating and buy a BOTRK later in the game to create a nice synergy. Also swap out Alacrity for Tenacity if the enemy team has 3-4 or more champtions with hard cc that effect tenacity (for example tenacity has no impact on knockups).

Summoner Spells (Loadout)

You wanna take Flash + Ignite 90% ofd the Games. That is because Trundle has VERY VERY FEW losing matchups. You want to constantly pressure your opponent into not lasthitting minions and getting killed, so you wont really need Teleport, Ignite is just the much better option for early kills or quick trades. At level 2 you can already all in most matchups, burning your Flash and Ignite in exchange of the opponents Spells and still get away with a kill (even if you dont kill the opponent its still a good trade since youre the one pressuring them). Flash is also important since you can quickly go for a Flash + Q + Ignite (+Ult?) Combo thats does tons of damage and always will go trough (similar to Garens Ultimate).

Run Teleport in case of losing Matchup (unlikely)

Ghost CAN replace Flash, but Flash is almost always the better option since you already gain tons of Movement Speed with your W.

Skill Path

ALWAYS go for this Skillpath, everything else wouldnt really make sense considering your scaling (especially with Q and Divine Sunderer).

Quick Notes on the Abilities and your Synergies with Runes and Builds:

-Your PASSIVE basically gives you a lot of sustain in lane since you can just kill minions and be full hp again.

-Q has a great Synergy with Divine Sunderer, acts as an autoattack-cancel, has really low Cooldown, Slows the Target for a short duration (which is espacially great for catching up again since you attack really fast bc of lethal tempo and your W), steals enemy attack damage and gives you attack damage for 5 seconds (applies everytime you use it on an enemy), deals tons of damage and can attack Turrets (GREAT for Splitpushing) (Flash, Q, Ignite, (Ult?) Combo is really good)

-W synergizes really well with lethal tempo since you stack it a lot faster, gives you attack and movement speed to out trade the opponent and catch up when hes running away, also increases your healing by 25% when standing in it (so you always want to have it active at best), especially nice since it boosts your movement speed and can be "combined" with Q to then slow the enemy.

-E can basically block the escape path of enemies, great entrance tool for teamfights or picks, also slowing enemies near the ice pillar, can f*** up enemy flashes when placed right between them and a wall, overall great to catch up to enemies especially when followed up by your Q slow and W movespeed on yourself.

-R steals some of the enemies armor and magic resistance and deals some damage, cast on either the carry or tank (if the tank is not super behind) so you can take either of them out with your team really fast, can also be paired with ignite in teamfights or in lane phase to deal big burn damage

Item Builds

-FIRST BACK: Sheen for the Q procs and easy ealy lead + boots to run the enemy down combined with your W movespeed and the E and Q slow on the enemy

-DIVINE SUNDERER fits Trundles Kit perfectly + Activates on his Q for big damage (on Turrets too), also gives him a lot of CDR which is really nice on Trundle, however you will run low on Mana a lot of times

-BOOTS: either go Mercury's Treads if facing heavy AP or a lot of CC, or go Plated Steelcaps if facing a lost of AD Damage or a lot of Auto-attackers

-HULLBREAKER is really situational: GREAT Item for splitpushing and 2v1ing (in which Trundle is already pretty good, so its even better) BUT only if you're without your team. IF you can already see that your team 100% needs you in fights OR IF almost all of the enemy Turrets are already destroyed DONT BUY it (bc the further into the enemy base the more likely it will be that your teammates are around too. also why buy a splitpushing item when all of the turrets are already gone?!), if this isnt the case: BUY IT! (e.g. your team fights at drake and will likely lose because of 4v5, still keep on pushing bc the enemy team can either def 2v1 (your team will get drake then)(you will in 95% of the time be able to 1v1 kill everyone easily) or get drake but lose their intire lanes turrets, bc as i meantioned: Trundle destroyes Turrets like no one else with his W + Q + Demolition Rune, not even Yorrick can compete!)

-TITANIC HYDRA is just really good for Tankyness, Damage and Waveclear: Definetely Buy it!

-BLADE OF THE RUINED KING is another buy all of the time because it helps you run down the enemy even faster and you proc the passive effect of the item really fast with lethal tempo + your W + Q, also great item vs Tanks

-STERAKS is great for duelling, which is Trundles master discipline, and helps with tankyness in teamfights, also provides more damage

-BLACK CLEAVER IF against a lot of Tanks

-THORNMAIL mainly vs a lot of Healing (and/or AD)

-SPIRIT VISAGE (also gives you increased heal for your passive, BOTRK and divine sunderer) and DEAD MANS PLATE (gives you movement speed and little damage at the first hit after fully stacked) vs either a lot of AD or AP

Matchups and Synergies

Really short answer: you WIN EVERY MATCHUP (fights) except for the ones i will list below!: (Trundle can also 2v1 most matchups with their Jungler if he already has Ult!!!)

little sidenote: you still win, but will be unable to kill a few matchups like Jax, Kennen, Gnar, ...

THE BIGGEST COUNTER TO TRUNDLE IS THE ENEMY RUNNING AWAY AND YOU BEING UNABLE TO CATCH UP!

If you fall behind in lane, dont worry you still destroy towers like theyre nothing.

Always remember: no one on the enemy team can 1v1 95% of the time if you run Lethal Tempo, Ignite and follow the Item Guide!

Bonus: Trundle has great Synergy with Ornn (he can create terrain with his E and Ornn can dash against it to Knockup nearby enemies), only downside: since your playing Toplane, you will most likely not have a Ornn on your team xD
