Intro

Hello! Zilean is one of my go to picks in the midlane because of his ability to easily escape ganks with his E, set up ganks with his E and Double Q, and save your inting team with your ult. Because he mainly cares about cooldown reduction you don't have to worry much about getting tons of gold to remain relevant.

Runes

Zilean mainly uses Aery to help supply a shield using his E on allies as well as get some extra poke damage with your long auto attack range. I've done some testing with glacial augment but it feels better in the support role rather than mid because you lose that extra poke from Aery. If you believe you are outranged by an artillery mage could be a good time to consider Glacial to have a little more impact late game but your E slow and double bomb is already usually enough to get kills.

Summoner Spells

I always run TP Flash because making plays and getting around the map easier is what I am always looking to do. I focus mainly on helping my team more than getting myself ahead. Exhaust is a little overkill considering your E is a big slow and you have your R to save you from most assassins. Ignite could be ran if you think you have some good kill pressure with your Jungler or into a high healing champ in your lane but not much healing on the whole enemy team.

Skill Path

Basic mid Zilean leveling path. Some people swear by the 3 points in Q and then max E but personally I feel that only works into high mobility champs when you are playing support. The power of the max level double bomb at level 9 really helps you clear waves very quickly so you can zoom to another lane to help out. Especially because you can use your R to help tower dive you want to clear out waves quickly so you can roam. The only change is if you are into a high kill potential level 2 enemy I like taking E second so you can escape easier if needed.

Item Builds

Zilean cares mainly about CDR. More double bombs, more slows and speed ups, and more revives wins you games. Having mana to use your spells a ton also is extremely important. The Everfrost is a super good choice for the good mana and CDR that it supplies as well as the easy lockdown with the active to set up simple double bombs.

Tips and Tricks

• When double bombing you can hit Q twice and then W. This takes a little bit of practice to pull off correctly
• Usually there is no downside to using your E to either slow your enemy or speed yourself up before double bombing. This can help you to more reliably hit the stun
• Your Q prioritizes enemy champions over everything else.
• Be careful double bombing a Hourglassed or GA'd enemy as you can set them off before they can be hit.
• At level 6 and beyond you can use your ult to tower dive enemies very easily with your jungler or other laners because you dying under the tower and reviving resets tower agro.
• You have a longer auto attack range than most champions use it to abuse the enemy without being hit back.
• Late game usually sacrificing yourself to get a revive off on your hyper carry is worth it.
